History

Comact is a North-American leader in the design and manufacturing of wood processing equipment.  Not only does the company mainly serve the North-American market, but it also deals on the international level.  Comact offers the most comprehensive range of products on the market, featuring everything from mechanical equipment all the way to digital vision optimization, not to mention automation and controls.  Furthermore, it is equipped to deliver fully-automated production lines.  Comact manufactures equipment meant to meet the requirements of clients in the softwood as well as in the hardwood processing business.  Comact numbers 450 employees working out of its divisions in the Province of Quebec, namely, Mirabel, Quebec City, Saguenay, and Saint-Georges, as well as those in Prince George, BC and in St. Georges (SC, USA).

1974Move to Saint-Georges, Beauce and name change to Comact Inc.
1991Merger of Atelier B. Allard, Comact, Multimeg, and Scierie Denis to become Denis Comact
1997Buyout of the company by Schroders and the Caisse de Dépôt
1999Back to the Comact name
2000Expansion in Western Canada and the USA
2004Sale of the industrial division (Groupe Canmec inc.)
2006Asset buyout by managers and financial partners. The company now consists of these units: Comact Chicoutimi, Comact Saint-Georges, Comact Optimisation (in Boisbriand), and administrative offices in Lebourgneuf, Québec
2009Diversification in the wood pellet industry
2013Acquisition of Industrie P.H.L. Inc., located in Saint-Ephrem, Beauce
2013Acquisition of controlling interest in Comact by the BID Group of Companies from British Columbia. Thanks to its greater capability in sawmill design, manufacturing, and delivery, it is now one of the largest companies of its kind in North America.
